Cut back to sound timber
Chisel out everything soft. Leave a clean edge the epoxy can grab.
Stabilise
Brush the two-part stabiliser into the end grain and let it soak in.
Mix on a board, then fill
Tubes mix in the gun. Pots mix by hand, 3 parts base to 1 activator, until it is one colour. Pack it in and leave it proud.
Shape and prime
About 1 hour with the 1 hour epoxy, or 4 hours with the 4 hour, at 20 °C. Slower on a cold morning. Sand it flush and prime once it has cured.

Why is DT Epoxy better than normal wood filler?
DT Epoxy creates a structural repair that binds to the wood like a structural glue; not just a filler or bog. Ordinary fillers only cover the surface, and often crack or shrink in the weather, or as the building fabric expands and shrinks with the seasons.
Do I need the gun?
Only for the twin-cartridge tubes. The gun mixes the two parts as you squeeze, so you need one for the 1 hour and 4 hour tubes. It comes in the master kit, the big filler bundle and the 1 hour starter pack, or buy it once on its own. The 4 hour epoxy also comes in 400 ml pots you mix by hand, and those need no gun.
Can I use it on exterior timber?
Yes. Our crews use it outdoors on their jobs in Tasmania and Victoria. Use it indoors or out on doors, windows, frames and trim.
How long does the repair last?
It is the only wood epoxy our crews carry on their own jobs. Done to the steps above (cut back, stabilised, filled proud, primed) it moves with the timber instead of cracking out.
Can I paint over the finished repair?
Yes. The 1-hour epoxy is ready to sand in about an hour at 20 °C and the 4-hour in about four. Once sanded it takes paint or stain.
