Sash Window Restrictor (Angle Lock) (no key)

Angel locks or 'Restrictors' are designed to restrict the amount a sash window’s lower sash can open. Fitted and used properly, they can prevent your child from opening the sash far enough to fall through. They do not require a key to operate and are unique in the way they reset automatically when you close the window.

Face-Fix Angels are fitted into the face of the stiles of the top sash, one on either side is required.

How they fit: rebated into the frame

The body of the restrictor sits in a small mortise cut into the timber, so the metal is embedded in the frame rather than perched on the surface. Only the slim 86mm x 16mm faceplate shows. That embedded fitting is what makes them strong: there is no housing to lever off, and the load goes into the timber itself. It also makes them discrete. Most people never notice them on a finished window.

Fitting takes a drill, a chisel or router for the mortise (57.5mm x 12.5mm slot, 15mm deep), a screwdriver and about twenty minutes per window. Fit one on each side, roughly 100mm above the top of the closed bottom sash, or at whatever opening height suits the room. The restrictor engages automatically every time the window closes. Press the release and the sash slides fully open for cleaning or a hot day.

• Tested to ASTM F2090 (2008, 2010, 2013 and 2017), the standard for window fall prevention devices for young children
• Safety device load capacity of 350N verified to BS EN 14351-1:2006 by a UKAS accredited laboratory
• A traditional timber sash window fitted with these devices passed PAS 24:2016 enhanced security testing (Wintech report R17136), including manipulation and mechanical loading tests

Safety note: restrictors protect against accidental falls by young children but are not a substitute for supervision. Keep them engaged unless the window is needed for emergency escape, and never padlock them.
