We’ve all been there: you spot a bit of rot on your timber window sill, run to the local hardware store, and grab the first "all-purpose" wood filler you see. It looks fine for a few months—until the next heavy rain hits.
One of our customers recently shared their frustration after a "budget" repair failed, leaving their timber exposed and the rot spreading. Here’s how they fixed it properly the second time using Sellaseal’s Two-Part Wood Repair Epoxy & Filler.
The Problem: The "Off-the-Shelf" Failure
The previous repair used a standard, water-based filler. These are often too brittle for exterior use. Because wood naturally expands and contracts with the weather, the inferior filler cracked and pulled away from the timber. Moisture got trapped behind it, accelerating the rot and turning a small patch into a structural headache.

The Step-by-Step Rescue
The Clean Out: The customer stripped away the old, crumbling filler and scraped out every bit of soft, punky wood until they hit "bright" (healthy) timber.

Prep: The area was dried thoroughly. (For deep rot, we always recommend a quick coat of wood hardener first!)
The Mix: Using a simple 3:1 ratio, the Sellaseal Epoxy was mixed until thoroughly combined.

The Fill: The epoxy was pressed firmly into the cavity, ensuring no air pockets were left behind.

Finish: After curing, a quick sand made the repair flush with the sill. A coat of primer and paint later, and you’d never know there was ever any rot present!
